What is Spiritual Leadership Coaching?

Most of us could lead at a higher level if we had a coach to help us maximize our strengths, work through our weaknesses, and hold us accountable to the commitments we make to God and others.

Offering both one-on-one coaching or facilitated team coaching, a BMI-certified leadership coach is standing by to help.

Church and marketplace leaders frequently ask BMI for guidance as they seek to know and do God’s will for their organizations.

In response, BMI has developed a network of certified leadership coaches to help people experience God, hear Him clearly, and stay accountable to the commitments He leads them to make. Our coaches are specifically trained to assist men and women who are serving in vocational Christian ministry, as well as Christian business leaders who are seeking to impact the marketplace for the kingdom.

BMI leadership coaches are trained professionals who maintain strict confidentiality with their clients. They will not tell you what to do. Rather, they will pray with you, encourage you, and ask deep questions that will help you better understand God and yourself.

Their mission is to equip you to discern God’s voice more clearly so you can lead at a higher level and fulfill your calling.

What’s the process? How does it work?

We will help you find and adhere to God’s agenda. This process is empowered by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in both you and your coach. As such, there is no coaching formula.

We start where you are and go from there. This process is about Him … and you. Together.

What is God saying to you about your life and leadership? How is the Spirit guiding you as as you read your Bible? What do you hear during prayer times? How are other Christians advising you?
Is God communicating with you through your circumstances?

Does this approach to coaching sound fluid and dynamic? By its nature, it has to be!

coachGod created you with a unique personality: body, mind and soul. As a believer, He has also given you His Spirit to reveal the Father’s heart and will for your life. For that reason, no two coaching encounters are the same.

But this much is consistent: The process begins with a 20 minute initial coaching consultation over the phone. We use a variety of tools, exercises, and protocols, all consistent with the BMI message and ministry, to help you identify God’s activity in your life and the next steps you should take.

Additionally, as a spiritual leader, you share these four characteristics with our other clients:

  • You’ve been divinely appointed to your role
  • You’re guided and empowered by the Holy Spirit within you
  • You’re driven by God’s agenda
  • You’re called to lead your organization God’s way:
    • Valuing people while striving for excellence
    • Leading in a way that honors God and receives His blessing
    • Following time honored biblical principles
    • Leading from who God has enabled you to become

So, while each of our engagements is unique, a common thread runs through our work. These commonalities give your coach the perspective and wisdom you need in a mentor.

What makes a BMI leadership coach distinctive?

BMI leadership coaches are unique in several ways:

  • They have been personally mentored by Henry and Richard Blackaby and are BMI-certified
  • They are leaders who have a wide array of successful experiences
  • They incorporate unique truths from Experiencing God into their coaching
  • They network with other BMI coaches so they can continue growing
  • They help clients see how God makes a practical, tangible difference in the way they live and lead
  • They are willing to walk with you until your leadership ability has moved from where it is to where God wants it to be

In short, BMI leadership coaches walk the same path as you, and they are committed to knowing and doing the will of God. Their approach is unique because it revolves around God and His activity in your life.

Leadership coaches come in all shapes and sizes and utilize a variety of methodologies. Finding a coach who best fits who you are, what you stand for, and where you’re going is a crucial part of the coaching process.

In BMI’s initial coaching consultation session, you and your coach will have a chance to get to know each other. Then you can both prayerfully determine whether it would make sense to move forward with an ongoing coaching engagement.

You and your coach must be a good fit. If your coach senses for any reason that proceeding isn’t the right thing to do, he/she will be honest with you and tell you directly. You must commit to do the same.

If you have specific questions, you can submit them here, and a BMI staff member will contact you. If you are ready to get started, please click on “Initial Coaching Consultation” on the left side of the page.
